Ron Sparks Vice President Chief Audit Executive
Ron Sparks joined SCL Health as Vice President and Chief Audit Executive in December, 2010, after serving in this role as a contractor with the healthcare audit and consulting firm, CHAN Healthcare. He oversees a diverse group of financial, operational, IT, coding and clinical auditors that perform audit, advisory and data analytic services to help improve processes and internal controls throughout SCL Health. He also serves as staff to the Audit, Organizational Integrity & Compliance Committee of the Board, and as a member of the SCL Health Executive Governance Committee and the Executive Integrity & Compliance Committee.
Sparks worked at CHAN Healthcare for 13 years, serving with progressive levels of responsibility for healthcare provider clients such as Dignity Health, Ascension Health, Via Christi Health and eventually SCL Health before overseeing the successful transition from CHAN Healthcare to the new Internal Audit Services department at SCL Health. During his healthcare career, Sparks has and continues to serve as either chair or member of multiple executive steering committees designed to improve either the patient or employee experience and oversee Enterprise Risk Management efforts.
Sparks was also a Senior Auditor in the United States Marine Corps. He attained the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and served a total of 13 years as a Marine in administrative and audit positions before leaving active duty service in December 2001.
Ron holds a bachelor’s degree in Managerial Accounting from Park University and an Executive Masters of Business Administration from Washington University in St. Louis. He is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), holds a Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) and is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and Association of Healthcare Internal Auditors (AHIA). He is also a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).
