LAFAYETTE - Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette is the first Boulder County hospital to offer patients the Oxford Knee replacement surgery.
The knee surgery only replaces the portion of the knee that is damaged, allowing the patient to recover faster, have less scaring, experience less pain and have fewer complications, according to a hospital press release.
People who experience osteoarthritis of the knee have cartilage breakdown in one or more joints causing the bones to grind on each other causing pain. The Oxford Knee surgery replaces the damaged portion while leaving healthy ligaments untouched.
Bill Cooney, a Front Range Orthopedic Center surgeon who focuses on knee, shoulder and elbow reconstruction, is the doctor able to perform the surgery. Cooney is also the Broomfield Event Center medical director and Rocky Mountain Rage and Colorado 14ers team physician.
