Bald is Beautiful event at downtown restaurant to support breast cancer patients
Many who visit Rock Bottom Brewery's downtown Denver location on Friday, June 26, with a full head of hair will leave with none at all.
That night, Rock Bottom Brewery and the Rock Bottom Foundation will host the annual Bald is Beautiful event to benefit the Andre Center for Breast Cancer Education and Navigation. This one-of-a-kind nonprofit is dedicated to aiding those diagnosed with cancer through clinical education and assistance in navigating the medical system ( www.andrecenter.org).
Beginning at 5:45 p.m, Bald is Beautiful participants, both women and men alike, will line up to have their heads shaved. Participants will also be asking for support from friends and family in the form of monetary pledges.
" Bald is Beautiful is a wonderful event, that the Rock Bottom Foundation has been instrumental in making so successful," said Sandra Walters, RN, founder and executive director for the Andre Center. "It provides much needed support for our organization, which does not charge for services."
The evening's festivities, which will take place at the Rock Bottom Brewery located at the corner of 16 th and Curtis Streets, will begin with a silent auction to benefit the Andre Center at 4:30 p.m. The auction will last until 7:30 p.m. Sponsors of the event include: Rock Bottom Foundation and Rock Bottom Brewery as Hosting Sponsor; Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital - Platinum Sponsor; Denver Vein Center - Gold Sponsor; Exempla Lutheran Hospital - Silver Sponsor; and Medical Center of Aurora; ONE Realty; Denver Daily News and Signal Graphics - Bronze Sponsors.
All proceeds generated by the event will directly benefit the Andre Center. Walters hopes the event will raise $10,000 in pledges and auction proceeds, with the goal of an additional $10,000 in business sponsorships.
Music at the Bottom, Rock Bottom Brewery's annual summer music series, will take place following the head shaving . Wendy Woo is the featured band for the evening.
"The emotional experience that our participants go through when they shave their heads is amazing," commented Walters . "It is a different experience for everyone, but a shared benefit is a heartfelt connection to those battling a cancer diagnosis."

About Andre Center
The Andre Center for Breast Cancer Education and Navigation was founded in May 2006 and is the only nonprofit of its kind. The Andre Center works to provide peace of mind to those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, as well as their friends and family, free-of-charge. This is accomplished through helping patients navigate the complexities of the medical system, coaching them through treatment decisions and providing them with non-medical resources for which a need may arise. The Andre Center is partnered with Women's Wellness Connection, the state's breast and cervical cancer screening program, was named a 2007 Yoplait Champion for extraordinary contributions in breast cancer education and navigation and was the recipient of the 2008 National Nursing Excellence Award in Community Service.
