Community stands tall for kids
"A man never stands as tall as when he kneels to help a child," explains the Knights of Pythagoras. I believe, "a community never stands as tall as when they rise to help children."
On April 11, our community rallied for kids at the first annual Broomfield Rotary Frank Shorter Race4Kids` Health. On behalf of Healthy Learning Paths, I want to thank the community for the support. For the last five years, this race has been a dream in the making and with your help, we did it.
So who are the race heroes? For starters, Frank Shorter and the Broomfield Rotary, who are committed to the health of children. John Abboud led a committee with sponsor experts like Tom Mahoney and Eric Holloway and Larry Haas, who organized more than 80 volunteers. Joe Mazzola charted the course and organized the flow of the day. Safety experts, Tom Deland and John O`Hayre engaged the help of police and fire rescue. Scott Fiedler, Katie Abboud and Savannah Schilling recruited students, and Emerald preschoolers sang the national anthem for an inspiring opening ceremony. Pete Dunlaevy, Dawn Stipe and John Ferraro offered the exceptional services of the City and County of Broomfield. Many thanks to each of you.
There has never been a race with so much focus on the health of children in our community. If we are to make a difference for kids, it will be done not just in the doctor`s office, but in the routine practices of every day life for families. The Colorado Marrow Donor Program was grateful for the 16 new donors who joined the registry. Together, we are building a culture of wellness for kids.
We had every aspect of our community involved thanks to the Camera and Enterprise. Julie Baxter, Jill Stravolemos and their staff showed up for kids and created a positive energy with their journalistic and media talents. We are fortunate to have the Camera and Enterprise as they breathe life into our community.
Heartfelt thanks goes to The Egg & I, Mimi`s Cafe, Horizon Dairy, Udi`s, Applebee`s, IZZE, Eldorado Natural Spring Water, and Sprouts Farmer`s Market for the delicious food they provided. Thank you, John Dobie of BSC Signs, who created colorful signage that we will use in years to come. We greatly appreciate the support from Lakeshore Athletic Club, Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center, Community Financial Credit Union, The Stratford at Flatirons, Raymond James & Associates, the Broomfield High School NHS, the Denver Roller Dolls, and the many sponsors, volunteers, and participants.
Healthy Learning Paths will reach thousands more children and families with our message of keeping kids healthy. Please know that your support has fueled the movement for kids` health -- a movement that will continue to grow.
Thank you for your generosity and for all you do to promote the health of kids. I look forward to seeing you all at next year`s race.
Dr. Chris Marchioni,
Healthy Learning Paths
