HRH Launches New Sleep Center
October 10, 2010
Holy Rosary Healthcare has launched a new sleep center and complete sleep medicine program to provide assessment and treatment for a variety of sleep disorders.
Sleep problems, including snoring, sleep apnea, insomnia, sleep deprivation, and restless legs syndrome, are common among millions of Americans. “There are hundreds of people here in eastern Montana with sleep disorders who are going untreated. Many times people have no idea what they were really putting up with until they’ve been diagnosed and treatment is in place to help with their sleep maladies,” said Tina Webb, CRT, cardiopulmonary supervisor at HRH and the sleep center coordinator. “The problem is that many times having a sleep problem spills into other areas of their health, and so if left untreated you may have multiple health issues to manage beyond what started with just a little sleep problem.”
A doctor’s referral is necessary to conduct a full sleep study. “Your primary care physician can you refer you directly in the program or you may visit sleep specialist Thomas Thigpen, M.D., a board-certified pulmonologist who specializes in sleep disorders, who is seeing patients at Holy Rosary,” explained Webb. If needed, patients will be referred for a sleep study, also conducted at Holy Rosary, to help further evaluate their condition. The sleep studies are facilitated by trained respiratory therapists.
This program assesses and treats insomnia, obstructive sleep apnea, pediatric sleep disorders, snoring, and more. Symptoms may include the inability to fall or stay asleep, pauses in breath during sleep, excessive sleepiness during the day, energy loss, depression, teeth grinding, restless legs and sleep walking. Those who exhibit any symptoms are encouraged to call their primary care physician or schedule an appointment with Dr. Thigpen by calling 1-866-476-6737.
