Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth names CEO
By Maureen McKinney
Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System, an eight-hospital Catholic system based in Lenexa, Kan., has named Michael Slubowski president and CEO, effective January 2011. He succeeds William Murray, who has led the organization since 1998. After Slubowski assumes his new role, Murray will stay on as an adviser until his official retirement in June 2011, according to a news release.
Slubowski's appointment caps a nationwide search, according to the release. Sister Maureen Hall, community director for the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth and a member of the search committee, cited Slubowski's past experience at similar Catholic health systems as one of the deciding factors in his selection.
Since 1997, Slubowski has worked for Trinity Health, a 30-hospital Catholic health system based in Novi, Mich., serving most recently as the organization's president of health networks. He also held roles at Trinity as a regional executive vice president and president of hospitals and health systems.
In January, Sisters of Charity announced it would become the parent organization of Exempla Healthcare, a three-hospital system in Denver. One of Slubowski's duties as CEO will be to manage the integration of Exempla and Sisters of Charity, according to the release. Slubowski will be based in Denver.
