St. Vincent Healthcare Names President and CEO
November 11, 2010
Jason L. Barker has been named President and CEO of St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings, Mont, effective Jan. 3, 2011. Barker will succeed St. Vincent President and CEO James Paquette, who earlier this year announced plans to retire in May 2011.
“Jason brings incredible experience and skills in hospital executive management and organizational excellence to St. Vincent,” said Dr. Walter Peet, Chairman of the St. Vincent Board of Directors. St. Vincent is an affiliate of Sisters of Charity Leavenworth Health System.
“Our search committee recognized Jason for his comprehensive focus—he understands the value of service to patients, physicians and other partners,” Peet added. “He brings a hands-on leadership style in a time of great opportunity and responsibility to all our constituents in Billings and our surrounding service areas.”
Barker, 45, currently serves as President and CEO of St. Mary Medical Center in Apple Valley, Calif., where his strong leadership has elevated the performance and community reputation of this faith-based, 194-bed acute care facility. He joined St. Mary Medical Center in 2003 and served as Senior Vice President/Chief Financial Officer and Compliance Officer until 2005, when he was named president.
St. Mary Medical Center is a member of the St. Joseph Health System, a Catholic health system with 14 hospitals in three states. Recently, St. Mary Medical Center gained full accreditation from the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP) and Barker was instrumental in actively engaging employees to create an environment of high-quality care and service.
Previously, Barker was CEO and CFO of Desert Valley Hospital System/Desert Valley Medical Group in Victorville, Calif., where from 1999 to 2003 he oversaw all hospital and medical group operations, including contracting, strategic planning, patient care and financial accountability. Prior to that, he served in a variety of executive and financial positions for medical centers and health systems in California and Washington.
Barker earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Washington in Seattle. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board for the Apple Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Sunset Hills Children’s Foundation.
“I am eager to join the outstanding caregivers and physicians at St. Vincent,” Mr. Barker said. “Their commitment to improve clinical quality and provide loving care to their friends and neighbors is something that attracted me to Billings. I hope to carry forward the many accomplishments this team has achieved and contribute to St. Vincent Healthcare’s ongoing mission of care and service.”
“We’re confident Jason’s talents, particularly in integrated delivery system management, will further position St. Vincent for future growth and also reinforce the Sisters of Charity’s rich legacy of compassionate healing,” added Bill Murray, President and CEO of Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System.
