St. Mary's now offers gynecologic oncology services

St. Mary’s now offers a type of cancer care no other facility in western Colorado provides—gynecologic oncology, specialty care for cancers of the female reproductive system.
“Gynecologic oncologists are surgical oncologists trained in providing comprehensive, multi-disciplinary care for patients with ovarian, uterine, endometrial, cervical, and vulvar cancer,” says Diana Morneault, director of Oncology at St. Mary’s. The patient with a gynecologic cancer may require several types of cancer therapies, and the gynecologic oncologist manages the patient’s total treatment, providing continuity of care.
Gynecologic oncologist Ruth Higdon, MD, recently joined St. Mary’s oncology department and is treating patients at St. Mary’s Regional Cancer Center. “We are happy to be able to offer this specialized care for the women of western Colorado and to provide it in a facility that brings all medical and supporting services under one roof for the comfort and convenience of our patients and their families,” Morneault says.
