Williams promoted as vice president of human resources at Providence Medical Center

Winifred L. Williams, Ph.D., has been promoted as the Vice President, Human Resources (HR) for Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan., Saint John Hospital, Leavenworth, Kan., and St. Francis Health Center, Topeka, Kan.
All three hospitals are members of Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System (SCLHS), where Williams has served as the Director of Organizational Development and Education since 2005.
In her new role, Williams will oversee all aspects of the HR programs, operations and activities in order to achieve strategic plans and goals for Providence, Saint John and St. Francis, consistent with the mission and values of SCLHS.
She will manage HR teams at each hospital in the implementation of strategies relating to workforce planning, recruitment, retention, employee education and development, organizational development, succession planning, compensation, benefits, employee engagement and employee relations.
"I am blessed and honored to have this exciting opportunity to work more closely with the outstanding teams at Providence, Saint John and St. Francis to fulfill our mission,” Williams said. “People are our most valuable and precious resource. My new role is to work collaboratively with the senior leadership teams to bring contemporary HR management strategies to support our health care ministries at these hospitals. I look forward to working with the exceptional associates, leaders, board members, volunteers and civic leaders to expand our healing ministry and support the good work we do."
Williams brings more than 20 years of executive-level HR experience to her new position.
During her six years at SCLHS, she focused on assessing organizational needs and developing strategies to facilitate organizational change for growth which support the SCLHS mission and goals.
Prior to joining SCLHS, Williams worked at Honeywell International, Olathe, Kan., in positions of increasing responsibility, ascending to the role of Director of Human Resources for the aerospace industry leader.
Her diverse industry background includes leading HR functions in the financial services industry with General Electric, and in health care with Tulane University Hospital and Clinic, New Orleans, La.
Williams received a doctorate of philosophy in organization and management from Capella University, Minneapolis, Minn.; a master’s of public administration in human resources management from Auburn University, Auburn, Ala.; and a bachelor’s of science in human resource management, also from Auburn University.
She is a graduate of the SCLHS Leadership Academy, as well as Ministry Leadership Formation.
Actively involved as an adjunct professor in the master’s in business administration program at the University of Saint Mary, Leavenworth, Kan., Williams is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and Employment Practices Network (EPN) of Kansas City. She and her husband, Joe, live in Overland Park, Kan.
They have one daughter who is currently attending college at Auburn University.
