Working together, employees bring holiday joy
December 08, 2011
St. Mary’s Just Bring One holiday donations program is based on the ideas that everyone can do a good deed and every little bit helps.
“Each year we ask our employees to each bring in just one blanket or one can or package of food. If each of our 2,000 employees brought just one, think what
we could do,” says Gretchen Gore, mission integration coordinator. “For the past four
years employees’ donations have provided generous gifts of food and warm
blankets to 10 to 12 local families.”
Throughout the year, St. Mary’s workswith its Partner in Education, Grand Mesa Middle School. “We collaborate Working together, employees bring holiday joy with the school on special events and family activities, and what’s more of a family activity than the Christmas holidays?” Gore asks. Counselors at the school identify students and families whose holidays may need a little extra cheer. “We never know who receives our gifts, but that doesn’t matter. St. Mary’s employees hear someone needs help, and they respond,” she says. When employees donate more than is needed for the family gifts, the rest goes to Homeward Bound and Grand Valley Catholic Outreach.
The holiday drive is coordinated by the hospital’s Mission Outreach Team, a group of employees whose volunteer efforts help extend St. Mary’s mission outside the hospital into the community.
