HRH SEEKING HOSPICE VOLUNTEERS
April 02, 2012
Holy Rosary Healthcare (HRH) is seeking volunteers to donate their time to hospice patients and their families. A multi-disciplinary team of physicians, nurses, social workers, a bereavement counselor and volunteers work together to address the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of each patient and family. This team provides care to patients in their own home or a home-like setting regardless of the patient's age or ability to pay. Volunteers are an essential part of creating a holistic experience for the patient and their loved ones.
There are many ways to be involved with the Hospice program. Volunteers may offer the family and caregivers relief by running errands, grocery shopping or a giving them time for a few hours away. Support is also given to the patient by listening and visiting. Volunteers are also needed for office support and assisting with events.
"Our volunteers often say they have gained a holistic perspective on their own lives through spending time with our patients, families, and just learning about hospice." states L'Dene McAvoy, HRH Volunteer Coordinator.
Volunteers can help families by enrolling in a special training scheduled for April 18th, 23rd and 24th. Pre-registration is required. For more information, contact L'Dene McAvoy at 233-3810.
