Exempla Lutheran Medical Center Nurse Receives Education Award
July 12, 2012
(July 12, 2012) – The Cochran family recently awarded the 23rd annual Cochran Education Award to Christy Ball, RN, OCN, a nurse in the Infusion Care Center of Exempla Lutheran Medical Center.
The award is given in honor of John and Lois Cochran, who both died in ELMC’s Hospice Care Center. Impressed by the level of care received by John and Lois, the Cochran family in 1990 funded an annual scholarship award for continuing education of an outstanding ELMC oncology team member. The awardee is recognized for leading by example in improving the quality of care, and by showing extraordinary compassion to patients and families, among other qualities.
Ball received the award in a ceremony on Friday, July 6, in recognition of her 8-year history as an oncology-certified nurse with ELMC. She began working for ELMC in the Inpatient Unit, and has worked in infusion care for the last 2.5 years.
Ball’s peers nominated her for the award along with Stacy Jensen from the cancer center; Rhonda Baird and Carol Gleason from the Breast Care Center; and Mary Castang from Hospice Homecare. Those who nominated Ball cited her warm and genuine nature, outstanding technical knowledge, and leadership roles as reasons she is deserving of the award.
