DENVER — (April 19, 2013) –SCL Health System announced today that its Denver affiliate Exempla Healthcare was named one of the nation’s top 15 health systems by Truven Health Analytics, a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of health care. Truven Health Analytics was formerly the healthcare business of Thomson Reuters.
SCLHS hospitals Exempla Saint Joseph in Denver, Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette, Colo., and Exempla Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge, Colo., were recognized for their efforts in clinical quality improvement.
Researchers from the Truven Health Analytics 100 Top Hospitals® program analyzed the clinical quality and efficiency of more than 300 health systems to identify the top 15.
“Quality initiatives make a difference,” said Michael Slubowski, FACHE, FACMPE, President and CEO of SCL Health System. “Not only do they elevate the care experience for the patient, but they also have a significant impact in lowering costs. Our hospitals’ continued recognition for quality is due to the caring spirit of our clinicians and associates who strive every day to deliver the highest quality person-centered care.”
U.S. health systems with two or more short-term, general, non-federal hospitals; cardiac and orthopedic hospitals; and critical access hospitals were assessed in the study. Researchers looked at several metrics that gauge clinical quality and efficiency.
“These metrics are extremely important to us as we seek to differentiate ourselves in the market,” said Bob Ladenburger, President and CEO of Exempla Healthcare. “Quality truly matters and we are proud to tell patients and families seeking care in the Denver area that our hospitals have been recognized for demonstrating significantly lower mortality, complication and readmission rates.”
The study relied on public data from the 2010 and 2011 Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) data and the CMS Hospital Compare data sets. Researchers from the Truven Health Analytics 100 Top Hospitals program have analyzed and reported on the performance of individual hospitals since 1993.
The top health systems were announced in the April 15 edition of Modern Healthcare magazine.
