HRH now offering 3D Digital Mammography with Tomosynthesis

Also named Pink Ribbon-Certified Facility
Women of eastern Montana now have local access to the very latest breast cancer detection technology available.
Holy Rosary Healthcare has acquired the Selenia Dimensions system - 3D digital mammography with tomosynthesis. The industry's most sophisticated digital mammography system, Selenia was designed for leading breast centers that desire superb image quality, reduced radiation exposure, and optimal patient comfort. This ground-breaking technology images the structure of the breast at various angles, without interference from the surrounding tissue. The one-millimeter thick, crystal-clear image slices come together to create a 3D view of the breast, minimizing the occurrence of even the tiniest spots being overlooked. Able to detect irregularities as small as a grain of salt, diagnoses are swifter, more accurate, and unnecessary "call-backs" are reduced by 20-40 percent.
"3D and tomo digital mammography are simply superior," noted Brady Banta, MD, radiologist.
"Rather than capturing a single two-dimensional image of the breast, we're capturing many images from various angles to get a complete picture. Research shows that 3D mammography detects cancers earlier than 2D mammography alone, with a 27 percent increase in cancer detection, and a 40 percent increase in invasive cancer detection."
As part of this project, the affirm breast biopsy system has also been acquired. Therefore, when breast biopsies are required, they can be performed onsite – an even greater convenience to our patients.
Lisa Ross, MD, OB/GYN, at Holy Rosary Healthcare, added "We're delighted to include 3D/tomo mammography to our comprehensive offering of women's services at Holy Rosary. We have a great team, superior technology, and a total commitment to women in our region."
Over the course of a lifetime, one in eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. The American Cancer Society recommends that every woman over the age of 40 be examined for breast cancer annually. With early detection, the five-year survival rate is an astonishing 98 percent.
Holy Rosary is also pleased to announce our certification as a Pink Ribbon 3D Breast Imaging Facility. The Pink Ribbon program illustrates a commitment to improving patient care and the mammography experience.
This project was primarily funded by donors of the HRH Foundation and a generous $517,863 grant from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust.
