HRH Foundation annouces 2014 Hom Scholarship Winner

June 18, 2014
The Holy Rosary Healthcare (HRH) Foundation is pleased to announce the 2014 recipient of the Millie & Ken Hom Nursing Scholarship – Danielle Eustice.  A resident of Miles City, Danielle will receive $2,500 to be applied toward her second year of nursing studies at Miles Community College.

Danielle graduated from Fairview High School in Fairview, MT.  Born in Miles City, she returned to the area after graduation to attend Miles Community College.  A devoted wife and mother of two young sons – Brody, 3 and Brady, 1 – Danielle juggles the demands of school and family with a quiet determination and a bright smile.

“Danielle has a solid work ethic and conveys a strong drive to maintain high academic marks, as well as to develop her nursing knowledge base,” commented Miles Community College nursing instructor Katrina Luther, RN, MSN.  “Danielle works effectively with peers, faculty and patients, and displays professional behaviors that we strive to foster in nursing students as they move toward future practice as a Registered Nurse.  Danielle will definitely be an asset to the nursing profession!”

Throughout her first year in the nursing program, Danielle had clinical experiences at Friendship Villa, Holy Rosary Extended Care, and the VA Community Living Center.  She also had the opportunity to shadow Home Health, Public Health and Hospice nurses, and received a more comprehensive view of the care that each nurse administers.  While she remains undecided, her career interests within the nursing profession include Obstetrics and providing care to veterans in VA facilities.

The Millie & Ken Hom Nursing Scholarship program launched in 2005, when Miles City resident, Ken Hom, partnered with the HRH Foundation to establish an endowment fund, providing nursing students with valuable scholarships and professional opportunities.  Attributed to the memory of Hom’s late wife, Millie, a true nursing pioneer, the program is now in its seventh year, with applicants having received nearly $20,000 in scholarships.

Administered by the HRH Foundation, the Millie & Ken Hom Nursing Scholarship program is a competitive application process; the winner is chosen by an independent panel of five judges.  To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:  the current enrollment or successful completion of one year in a college nursing program, the pursuit of an associate, bachelor, or master’s degree in a nursing-related field, at least 12 months of residency in eastern Montana, as well as demonstrating a need for financial assistance.
