BOULDER, Colo. (August 19, 2014)—Mental Health Partners is now providing behavioral health services to SCL Physicians - Larkridge Family, Occupational Medicine & Physical Medicine, a clinic located in Thornton, Colorado. This agreement builds upon the successful pilot program established by Mental Health Partners and Exempla Healthcare, first initiated at Exempla Thornton Medical Center last fall. Exempla Healthcare is now SCL Health and Thornton Medical Center is now part of SCL Physicians.
Mental Health Partners will locate an advanced practice nurse (APN) and a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) at the Larkridge clinic in Thornton. The LCSW provides on-site therapy to patients and the APN specializes in psychiatric medications and serves as a resource for the clinic’s physicians for medication management.
“Primary care physicians are typically a major point of contact for recognizing behavioral health issues in patients,” said Tom Base, chief business development officer at Mental Health Partners. “Rather than referring patients out to professionals, this arrangement allows ‘one-stop shopping,’ in effect, for patients. Instead of traveling to a behavioral health clinic, patients are able to receive behavioral healthcare services at Larkridge in collaboration with their primary care physicians. Research indicates that there has been an unmet need for these types of combined services.”
“We are excited to build upon the success of our pilot program. Primary care physicians collaborating with mental health specialists are much more effective than trying to provide care in a disconnected fashion. We are proud of the outcomes we are achieving together. Our patients need this kind of innovation,” said Dr. Stephen W. Cobb, President and Chief Medical Officer, SCL Physicians.
