Affiliation brings together two trusted names in Colorado healthcare

Broomfield and Brighton, Colo. (October 1, 2015) – Today, Platte Valley Medical Center, a nationally recognized hospital serving the northeast Denver metro area for 55 years, has joined Broomfield-based SCL Health, one of the top-ranked health systems in the country, to provide more comprehensive services for the Front Range.

By coming together, the two nonprofit healthcare providers will continue to deliver the kind of top-quality care and patient experience people trust and depend on. The partnership is expected to expand services while creating more value for consumers.

“This is a great day for the communities of the northern Denver metro area,” said SCL Health President and CEO Mike Slubowski. “Platte Valley Medical Center has a proud history of delivering an exceptional patient experience, and we are honored to be their chosen partner. As we combine our strengths and expertise on behalf of our patients and communities, we will make a great care experience even better.”

The agreement comes after a thoughtful selection process in which Platte Valley Medical Center evaluated proposals from a number of leading healthcare systems. SCL Health was selected based on:

  • The high performance of its other hospitals and clinics in quality and patient satisfaction
  • Its charitable mission and history of providing care for all
  • Its strong financial performance and stability
  • Its vision and plan for the future

“We set out to find a partner who would help us build upon our legacy serving Brighton and neighboring communities,” said Platte Valley Medical Center Board Chair Faye Hummel. “It’s also about two excellent organizations coming together to bring expanded access to resources and services, and enhanced quality of care for our community. SCL Health proved to be unmatched in performance, people, and in their passion for serving others.”

Platte Valley Medical Center will remain a separate, secular entity with its own administration, medical staff, employees, and board of directors. Platte Valley Medical Center will now have access to SCL Health’s breadth of experience and resources, and together with SCL Health will address the new requirements for comprehensive, area-wide "population health management." The agreement follows a Letter of Intent signed earlier this year and approved by both Boards of Directors, and approvals obtained from both federal and state regulators.

Platte Valley Medical Center is SCL Health’s ninth hospital and the fourth in the Denver area. In addition, SCL Health is building four community hospitals in Westminster, Northglenn, southwest Denver, and Aurora.

Platte Valley Medical Center is a Planetree-designated hospital, meaning it has earned international distinction and met strict standards for improving the patient-centered experience. SCL Health is one of the top 20 percent of health systems in the U.S., according to Truven Health Analytics. Two SCL Health Denver-area hospitals – Lutheran Medical Center and Saint Joseph Hospital – were named America’s Top 100 Hospitals by Healthgrades.
