Denver, CO (Feb. 23, 2016) – Three Denver metro area hospitals have been recognized among the top 100 hospitals in the country for quality by a leading healthcare ratings organization. Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge, Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, and Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette, all part of SCL Health, were recipients of the Healthgrades® 2016 America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ for their consistent and superior clinical performance.

They were the only three hospitals in the Denver metro area to receive the distinction, which places them among the top 2 percent of all hospitals nationwide. Healthgrades is the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.

Hospitals named in the top 100 nationwide have been recognized for at least three consecutive years with the Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™. As Top 100 hospitals, Lutheran, Saint Joseph and Good Samaritan are hospitals in the Denver metro area with some of the best quality care across at least 21 of 32 common inpatient conditions and procedures evaluated by Healthgrades over a period of at least three years.

“Everything we do as healthcare providers comes down to two things: person-centered care with the best possible outcomes. We aim to provide our patients with the same level of care we would want for ourselves and our families,” said SCL Health President and CEO Mike Slubowski. “To have so many of our hospitals recognized in this important way affirms our commitment to this work and gives us an opportunity to celebrate the progress we’ve made.”

The hospitals have received this recognition in part through innovative programs to reduce readmission rates, improve patient safety, and take other measures that contribute to patients’ overall outcomes.

Healthgrades also recognized SCL Health’s three Denver metro area hospitals for clinical performance and superior patient outcomes in several specific clinical services, diagnoses and treatment areas, such as stroke care, critical care, cardiac care, pulmonary care and general surgery, among numerous others.

From 2012 through 2014, Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ recipients, as a group, had a 26.5% lower risk adjusted mortality rate across 19 procedures and conditions where in-hospital mortality was the clinical outcome, compared to all other hospitals. During this same period, if all other hospitals had performed at the level of America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ recipients across these 19 procedures and conditions, 170,705 lives could potentially have been saved.
